Tour across the villages of Appiano

The tour from S. Michele to S. Paolo, Missiano, Riva di Sotto via Frangarto and Cornaiano makes you come to know the villages of Appiano.

The tour starts at Piazza Municipio in S. Michele. We traverse Piazza S. Michele and the Via dell’Oro, we turn into the Via Karfußweg, taking us to the residential area of Aica. From this place you can enjoy a great panoramic view on the impressive steeple of the S. Paolo parish church, also called the “dome in the countryside“. We proceed on Via Missiano, stretching across the gentle landscape of vineyards to Missiano. The hill with the S. Apollonia church is a great belvedere and makes you admire South Tyrol up to the Dolomites.

Across the Strada dei Campi we cycle to Riva di Sotto, at the crossing we turn right into via Pillhof. The following passage is rather busy up to the roundabout at the tourist information office, please watch out. We pass the crossing and follow the signs to Frangarto. About 200 m after, at the Gasthaus Sparerhof, we turn right and cycle (steep) from Frangarto at 260 m asl to 430 m asl to Cornaiano. You need to take a break? The centre of Cornaiano is ideal for a stop. The way back to the starting point is rather easy, either you take the main road, or choose to return on Via Lammweg and the Monticolo road.

This round tour takes past all the villages belonging to Appiano (except Monticolo and Gaido/Predonico). If you have time, you are invited to make a halt some of the places. The tour is easy, there is only one steeper passage, which is Frangarto-Cornaiano. Except the passage on Via Pillhof, the roads are not too trafficked. Particularly recommendable in spring and autumn.
