Cycle track from S. Michele/Appiano to Bolzano

Cycling down the Val d’Adige and to the city of Bolzano. The way back requires a little more effort.

This course stretches along the former railway line of the Oltradige trail. It is accessible via the roundabout at the end of Via Stazione in S. Michele, where a subway leads you towards north. From this point the course takes downwards along a forested slope between Cornaiano and Frangarto in eastern direction, past apple orchards. On this route you also pass through several little tunnels on the former railway line.

Above Frangarto, in the middle of vineyards, there is an exit of the cycling trail leading down into the valley. However, we proceed towards Bolzano and stay on the cycling route. After the bridge over the Adige river (Ponte d’Adige) we proceed in southern direction (part of the cycling route “Via Claudia” and the cycling trail of the Valle dell’Adige).

At the cycling route crossing Bolzano Sud we proceed towards north in order to reach the city centre of Bolzano. At the crossings Ponte Adige and Bolzano Sud, the main cycling routes of the South Tyrolean cycling network start, taking to Merano and the Val Venosta, the Valle Isarco and Val Pusteria as well as to the Bassa Atesina, to Trento and Lake Garda.
