Grappa

Also the production of the popular grappa has got a long tradition along the South Tyrolean Wine Road

A grappa is a clear, high percentage schnaps distilled of fruit. It has a slight flavour that makes you think of fruit. By the way, the pomace brandy, comes from Italy or Switzerland. It is distilled of rape, that is to say residues of the wine and juice production. In other words, the basis for the semiluxury food is squashed crop and vegetable varieties. Of course along the South Tyrolean Wine Road residuals of grapes, apples, pears and plums are used for the production of the popular schnaps.

A minimum percentage of 37.5 percent of alcohol must be contained in the schnaps in order to be sold as grappa. The distilleries along the Wine Road - larger and smaller - offer guided tours. Moreover there are days of the open doors and a special day of grappa distilleries, in which the distilleries present their work. By the way: A good grappa after a meal can be an excellent digestive!
