Climate and soil

Appiano and surroundings offers ideal conditions for the cultivation and production of high-quality wines.

Due to the fact that the Alps protect the area of Appiano and surroundings from rough northern winds and that the sun shines nearly the whole year round, the inhabitants of South Tyrol, especially those of the south, enjoy about 1,800 hours of sunshine per year. In July the average temperature reaches about 18 degrees C, in July sometimes even 22 degrees C. Rainfall is well distributed throughout the province. By the way: did you know that the grapes need a temperature of at least 15 degrees for ripening?

The soil in the surroundings of Appiano is calcareous, well aerated and is easily heatable due to its characteristics and the sedimentation of moraines dating back to the Ice Age. And exactly this type of soil and rocks are the basis for substantial vintage and the production of quality wines.
