The Ganda connects the district of Caldaro called Pianizza di Sopra with Appiano and has a very particular condition. The houses are built on a pile of rubble…
Near Pianizza di Sopra, northwards, the Ganda area is located, an expanse of rubble. A very long time ago there was a beautiful big city here, whose ends were half an hour apart. Even today the Georgsturm tower can be seen as a contemporary witness on the street. The inhabitants of the city were very rich and also a little overconfident and thoughtless.
Once at carnival the people in the village didn’t know what they could do and simply skinned an ox alive. Then they rubbed salt on it. The animal suffered dreadfully and roared loudly in pain. This act resulted in the punishment of heaven and immediately a mighty thunderstorm came up, from all mountain slopes the water plunged into the depths. The mountain nearby was torn away from the earth, fell down on the city and buried people and houses completely.
After some time the “running cobbler” from Jerusalem passed the Ganda for the second time and wept many tears, because he could not find the wonderful city anymore. The third time he would pass, he said, the whole world would end.
For a long time no people dared to settle in this area. Only shepherds herded their goats on the meadows and children played in the area.
