The Piccolo Penegal is one of the peaks of the Mendola mountain ridge and is located very close to its “big brother”.
You can best admire it from the neighbouring municipality of Caldaro. The little Penegal (Piccolo Penegal) is surrounded by the alpine landscape of the Penegal. Small, pleasant hiking trails take to this charming viewpoint converging in a cross, a 1,531 m high place in which the entire Oltradige and parts of the Bassa Atesina as well as Bolzano seem to extend at your feet.
Opposite in the east, the Dolomites with Latemar, Catinaccio and Sciliar are in the foreground. On the other side you can see the Brenta mountain ridge and the Ortles peaks. This is also where on the evening of the Sacred Heart of Jesus you can see a bright and enlightening fire visible from afar.
The little Penegal can be reached via a narrow mountain road. If you would like to walk, take the trial from Passo Mendola to the peak, a walk that takes you approximately one hour. Larch meadows and alpine vegetation line your road, which by the way also takes you to its “big brother”, where a kiosk provides welcome refreshments.
