Organic farms

More and more farms in South Tyrol dedicate themselves to organic production and species-appropriate husbandry

More and more farms also along the Wine Road have an ongoing commitment to organic farming and species-appropriate husbandry, that's to say to a biodynamic agriculture. Many organic farmers sell their products at farm-gate sales or at the farmers' markets in the single villages - of course seasonable:

  • Monday: Terlano
  • Tuesday: Caldaro, Bolzano and Appiano
  • Friday: Egna and Nalles

One of the local farming associations is the Bioland South Tyrol with seat in Terlano, founded in 1991 by 10 local farmers. By now it counts more than 1000 members and sets standards regarding active nature conservation, climate protection, promotion of soil fertility, animal welfare, conservation of natural resources and production of valuable products.

The "Bioregio Coop.", a consortium of South Tyrolean mountain farmers, who manage their farms according to organic guidelines and promote suckler cow keeping, however, offers high-quality organic meat called Bio*Beef. The ever expanding offer is completed by organic apples and apple juice from South Tyrol (Agricultural Cooperative Biosüdtirol), organic markets such as Naturalia in Bolzano, and initiatives such as the fruit and vegetable delivery service "Biokistl Südtirol".
