The Kreit residence is located in San Michele, a district of Appiano, and is probably the most visible residence in the Oltradige area.

Situated to the east and away from the centre, the tower of the residence “waves” above all to the walkers along the cycle path. Around 1596, the Kreit farm was made a residence. At the same time, farmer Elias Leys converted the farm into the beautiful building. Documents still exist about these measures.
Today the complex consists of two corner towers, an open staircase and a loggia. A chapel is also part of the residence. It dates from 1661 and is dedicated to St. Anton.
In the middle of the 17th century, the Zeffer family became the owner of the residence. Soon afterwards the family members received the name “von Zephyris” and were ennobled with the title “von Greith”. The last descendant of this family was a priest, so the farm remained in venerable hands for three generations. Since 1898 the Kreit residence has been owned by the Raifer family.
