This walk is one of the most popular and famous hikes of Appiano and takes past three major castles. Castel Boymont and Castel d’Appiano can be considered ruins, hosting a tavern. Castel Corba is still well-preserved and hosts a hotel and restaurant that are widely known. Our hike starts at Castel Corba, which can be reached by car.
The hiking trail n°9 directs us to the farmstead Unterhauser Weinstadel, the “Kreideturm” tower is only a stone’s throw away. A quarter later, we reach Castel d’Appiano, bearing some precious gems. In the castle moat, there are some pigs walking about. As Castel d’Appiano is an ideal place for a break, we decide to stop for a while. The castle tavern is by the way one of the most popular excursion destinations of the Oltradige region.
After this pleasant stop, we continue our walk on the trail n°9 to the next bijou of the castle region of Appiano, which we can already see from afar: Castel Boymont can be reached via a 60 m long wooden footpath stretching over the valley. Also this castle is ideal for a short break, either in its tavern or at the donjon, which can even be climbed. By the way, it provides a great panoramic view.
Within 15 minutes more, we reach our starting point at Castel Corba, making the circular tour complete. With beautiful photos, various impressions and lasting memories of the great cuisine in the castle taverns in our backpack, our hiking day draws to a close.
