A grappa is a clear, high percentage schnaps distilled of fruit. It has a slight flavour that makes you think of fruit. By the way, the pomace brandy, comes from Italy or Switzerland. It is distilled of rape, that is to say residues of the wine and juice production. In other words, the basis for the semiluxury food is squashed crop and vegetable varieties. Of course in Appiano residuals of grapes, apples, pears and plums are used for the production of the popular schnaps.
A minimum percentage of 37.5 percent of alcohol must be contained in the schnaps in order to be sold as grappa. The distilleries in Appiano - larger and smaller - offer guided tours. Moreover there are days of the open doors and a special day of grappa distilleries, in which the distilleries present their work.
By the way: a grappa after eating is supposed to promote digestion.
