Madonna del Riposo church
Slightly out of the village of S. Michele, there is a lovely Romanesque church, which is often venue for weddings.
The little church Madonna del Riposo is located in a road that bears the same name. It was constructed on the references of the architect of the diocese, Josef Vonstadl, at the end of the 19th century. The style of the church is attachable to the neo-Romanesque period. By the way, the Madonna del Riposo church is considered the first historical sacred building of Appiano. From the churchyard you can perceive a façade wall, a round-arched apsis, a round-arched moulding and a groin vault. In the border wall of the cemetery you can admire stations of the cross realised and decorated by the artist Robert Scherer.
The little Madonna del Riposo church was consecrated in 1875, according to a marble plaque above the entrance. Also a picture of the Virgin Mary by Ré di Vegezzo was originally integrated in this place. Today it can be seen at the neo-Romanesque high altar. Since the year dot this church is considered a pilgrimage site.
