The surroundings of Appiano is one of the richest areas in castles on European scale. Embedded among fruit orchards and vineyards, it is located only a stone’s throw from the city of Bolzano. Particularly worth to be visited is Castel d’Appiano and its beautiful castle chapel. In summer the lakes of Monticolo are ideal if you seek refreshment. -
The South Tyrolean Wine Route stretches from Nalles to Bolzano and the Oltradige, via the Bassa Atesina to Salorno. This area comprises about 90% of the South Tyrolean Wine production, including the typical varieties of wine such as the Merlot and Lagrein, as well as the Pinot Girgio and the Chardonnay. By the way, the South Tyrolean Wine Route is the most ancient of Italy. -

When in February temperatures start to rise in Appiano, you should keep you free one day off at the end of the month or the latest at the beginning of March. This is the period when the Valle della Primavera shows its bright side. The Angelbach river transports water and the climatic conditions make the first heralds of spring protrude from the soil in this valley, oriented towards south.
The Valle della Primavera, literally translated as “spring valley”, stretches in a hollow that is particularly moist. Snaking in a sheltered position and mingled with the warm air from the south, in spring this valley is a real eye-catcher thanks to the seas of yellow primroses, cowslips and white spring snowflake covering the area. The liver liverwort and veils form little groups and represent a perfect contrast to the white-yellow-brown blaze of colours. The Valle della Primavera is under natural protection and a biotope, which means that picking flowers is not allowed. For this reason everyone enjoy the beauty of nature in this beautiful spot of land.
However, also summer and autumn are pleasant seasons to be spent in this area. Nevertheless the most impressive period is still spring. The Valle della Primavera can be reached by car from Monticolo or Caldaro. For further information don’t hesitate to ask your host.
