Museum of Wine

As it is the only official Wine Museum of South Tyrol, we dedicate an article in this section to this museum, even if it is located in the neighbouring village of Caldaro.

The South Tyrolean Wine Museum is located in the centre of Caldaro an absolutely fits this area, due to the fact that Appiano and Caldaro are two of the most important vine-growing municipalities of South Tyrol and are located along the Wine Route. In the basement vaults of the museum, items that make you learn more about the history of vinegrowing are exhibited. Pictures, barrels, back frames with shelfs, glasses and many more items illustrate that vine-growing used to be and is still of utmost importance to people in this area.

The museum has been established in a tithe cellar of an estate of the territorial princes, which also provides an insight into the customs and traditions of the farmers in this area. Moreover a short wine educational trail behind the walls gives information on the cultivation of grapevines in the last decades. Also ancient grape varieties can be admired along the trail, enriching the museum.
